Hi!

One of the great things about blogging is the ability to see into the past all crazy-like. And so I think that, considering that it's October, reminiscing about my relationship with Phuc was practically inevitable.

While our four-year anniversary is coming up in two and a half weeks, which in itself is honestly quite an accomplishment (almost half a decade!), the part that really gets me is that this will be our first anniversary out of high school. We now have all of high school to look back on, because we spent all of those four years together. There's something big about my first anniversary out of high school with my high school sweetheart. :O He's my high school sweetheart! :3

I also learned that I dropped some eloquent stuff about Phuc that I almost don't believe I wrote. I'm a little impressed, lol.

Like this, from the closing night of the school play, Scapin:
... Not to berate myself as inferior in any way, but it truly felt like a privilege to just stand there next to him, this classroom celebrity that everyone, everyone sees something worth admiring in him. ... Mind you, I don't feel like I don't deserve him, but "lucky", I'm sure, isn't near the right word. Being by his side really is a privilege, one that fate and faith alike allowed me to borrow and maybe even keep as mine. He stands there on stage for two hours as Scapin and leaves people with their breaths taken. He leaves me swept off my feet everyday.

And I also said this in Feb 2007:
"I'll be all '53 month anniversary yo' before y'all know it."
And guess what? We're approaching our 48-month anniversary. It's really before *I* even knew it. Time flies when you're having fun!

Hello!

It's been one action-packed month since I moved to UC Merced. Very sunshine and cows, oh my!

I'm getting along with most of my suitemates, and my roommate, Dani, has been super cool deluxe so far! I haven't been eating instant noodles as much as I anticipated I would be, 'cos the dining commons food isn't as bad as I expected. My room is SIGNIFICANTLY messier than since I last posted, but I periodically throw everything in my drawers when we're expecting significant company.

I've missed all of my anticipated club meetings! >_>! The reasons have been a diverse mixture of laziness, sleepiness, and forgetfulness.

Phuc has been super great and visited me three times already! :) Once the weekend after I moved, once on Labor Day, and then just this past Wednesday! :O I'm thinking about seeing him on Monday because it'll be September 28th -- our last "28th" until our 4-year anniversary! So yay!!

I also got to spend a whole mess of time with my sister and her boyfriend, Patrick! I've hung out with him like three times and I'm already really comfortable around him, which is a very new experience for me, lol. I fell down at Yosemite National Park and scratched up my knee all awful! D: I also like fat kitty Sasha and chocolate!

I went home to Sacramento for the first time last weekend, which was pretty cooo'. I went to a byebye party for Crystal and Phuc (snap!) and we had a lot of freckled lemonades~. :D

And uhh, I went to my first college party because my roommate and a lot of my neighbors were going, and I wanted to establish whether or not I liked college parties. And it was mostly just alcohol and talking, basically, and I'm not very big on drinking or talking, soo.. And it was my first time ever seeing drunk people, which was, UHHH, an experience. So I don't think these things are meant for me.

Pew, I'm also starting to get a little homesick! I was fine most of the first month but now I'm starting to miss home. I think it's because I haven't really established any solid friends here yet, so pew pew pew! hopefully it'll pass! pew pew pew pew pew

I've been spending some time being remorseful about how much the city of Merced is lacking, but I actually really like UC Merced so far! Very cool cat campus.

BYAHH!!

I'm way sleepy and tired so I blog real fast. Um. I bought a toothbrush, a lightbulb, and some brownies at Target today, and met more people from the UCM facebook group. :O Then I had a headache so I had to stay in the dorms while my other suitemates went on more adventures to the Lake and whatnot, but Michelle stayed behind too, so we watched Pride and Prejudice together. I learned that my internet CRASHES something epic whenever I try to transfer a file, because I kept trying to send Phuc some photos of my room and it kept failing really hard. It also crashes a lot cos it hates me.

I learned that the dining hall food is actually pretty good, or at least my dinner was pretty awesome. And umm, that my bed is really squeaky and makes me sad at night. :( And that delivery trucks in the middle of the night ARE LOUD AS ALL HELL. They're even louder than the trains I lived next to back in Sacramento! I mean, I thought I got away from the whole waking-up-to-honking-and-instantly-thinking-omg-it's-gonna-crash-into-my-room-and-now-i'm-gonna-die thing.

Hello, world!

I am now a resident of UC Merced! It was a really weird experience because I imagined waltzing in and being super excited to meet everyone. Instead, because there was a 20-minute unloading time limit, it was super rush-rush "AHH GET IT ALL OUT OF THE CARRRR!" :O

My parents and I had lunch at KFC (XD) and then they took me back to my dorm.. AND LEFT!!! SNAP!! AHH!

I started mingling with four of my suitemates (one went swimming) and we hung out a lot! :D Yay! The assembly was super boring but well-intentioned. Lol.

But after the assembly was pretty bomb. (yes, new slang!) My suitemates and I swung by the block party, where we met our neighbors! :O We chatted a bit until we went to their suite to watch Demitri Martin, then we headed to Yosemite Lake for a First Day of College Adventure. :D

Although the park was closed ("orite, these things close after sunset"), we found a place to lie down and stargaze.

And I have to admit, as much as I've ripped on how small and unnerving UC Merced is, I have to say that the stars there are quite a sight. Since the university is so far from town, I was able to see all the stars I've never been able to see in all my life in big towns like San Jose and Sacramento. It was my first time seeing the Big Dipper and Orion's Belt! :) kewl beans!

OKAY TIME TO SHOWER COS I'M ALL HOT AND GROSS COS THE A/C IS BROKEN

Hi!

So for like, the last week, I've been starting entries and never finishing them, so I'm just going to submit this wherever I happen to end. >_>!

I am barely near done packing, which is pretty bad considering I move in THREE DAYS. So I will get back to that once I am done with this.

On Saturday, I had lunch with Mrs. Choate, my kindergarten and first grade teacher (yea, that's right)! She wanted to get together before I left for Merced, which I thought was really groovy! :] We ate at BJ’s, where she gave me a folder full of stuff I made in kindergarten and the poems and stories that I wrote and e-mailed to her over the years! XD Something embarrassing that I saw in all my stories: in all the stories that I wrote as a young'un, I gave EVERYONE Japanese names because I was SO into anime at the time! >.>! Ahh!

But besides that, I've been happily going to a bunch of going-away parties because it's AWESOME seeing all my friends before I move! :D Yayyy!

Nyar!

So, I spontaneously forgot about my experience at church on Sunday in all the excitement of baking brownies and planning for UC Merced.

But, we had a guest pastor from the Philippines on Sunday, because it was Priest's Day in the Philippines. And his accent was just ridiculous. Because for a person that flew in from the Philippines just last week, he had a much better American accent than a lot of people I know that have lived here in America for decades! Snap!

Then, in the middle of blessing the Eucharist, he sneezed. And I said, "Bless you," and suddenly felt like I said something super inappropriate. D: Because he was a priest. Went through years of training to be God's servant and share God's word with the world and baptize babies and give last rites and bless all of God's followers. And I just go to church every other Sunday and daydream about other stuff during the slow parts of mass.

So, big question: What is the appropriate response when a priest sneezes? "And also with you"? D:

But yeah, while I am excited for moving to UC Merced, meeting Dani, joining the Bakery Club, eating curry at lunch, actually starting classes is way less appealing. No more waking up at noon everyday and sleeping at God-knows-what-hour, and no more wasting the day away just playing Restaurant City and watching The Office. I'm bummed out whenever summer vacation is nearing a close. Ugh, studying!

On another note, I won thirty dollars at the casino today! Lol. XD;;;

Nyar!

Bless UC Merced's heart, but their webmail system is terrible. It blows chunks. It's impossible to categorize messages as spam or delete anything and is very cluttered. I finally gave up, made a new yahoo address, and now have all my UCM mail forwarded there. So among my several e-mail addresses, christa.caneda@yahoo.com is now an option for all of you that want to e-mail me. >_>!

But, I finally started baking for the first time since my traumatic "I put too many eggs in these" cupcakes! I'm still not pro baker or anything but I'm uberly excited about it! :D I made cupcakes last week and I made some brownies yesterday. Here's the s'mores brownies that I made (sans the graham crackers 'cos we didn't have any of those in the house) with a side of strawberry ice cream (which is an odd-tasting combination):

I secretly want to get really good at baking so that I can be one of those cookies/pie/cake-making mothers when I grow up, and all the children will want to hang out at my house because I make the BEST cupcakes out of all the other moms, and my child will be super popular because his/her mom is sooo freeeakin' cool and awesome. :D Practice makes perfect!

I'm also getting increasingly "AHH" about my UC Merced funds, despite the reassurance that I'm fully paid for freshman year. It's just very intimidating once you're actually billed for $10,000 and you have no money. >_>! So I've been freaking out at financial aid on my FA disbursement and at Clara Abbott about sending me my scholarship check on time and at all these crazy deadlines. Oh, college! Oh, college.

Wee!

Happy 18th birthday, Phuc! :D

For real this time. In light of all the presents I gave him in the days and weeks before his birthday. >_>!

I had a delightful time celebrating Phuc's birthweek! :3 It was very much the most I've ever been out with my Sacramentian friends in a week since I moved here to Sacramento. Which is four times in a week, including my bike ride on Sunday. Lol. <_<.

Our anniversary/"the first day of Phuc's birthday" was on Tuesday, and we went to the Sacramento Zoo! We passed through the reptile house a few times because it was air conditioned, and the giant snake scared me everytime, and it was impossible to convince me that the dwarf crocodile wasn't a taxidermied animal (IT LOOKED SO LIFELESS D: ). I also really liked sitting down and just watching the flamingos be flamingos. One of the highlights of the zoo was definitely this red panda that slept soooo lazily!

On Wednesday, we wanted to go see a free screening of (500) Days of Summer near Arden Mall, but we got there late so the movie was full, and we went to chill at Arden Mall instead. :O I totally showed Phuc my new flip-flop tan (*SO PROUD*) and we grabbed pizza afterward! And on Thursday, we had dinner at TGI Friday's, which was cooooooo'. :3

So yee! Happy birthday Phuc! :D

AND, on another note but similar note since Phuc's birthday IS on August 1st, it's now August!!! AHH! Meaning I am moving to Merced and starting my college career this month! OSHIZZAP! Most of July was spent watching The Office and playing Restaurant City, so I need to buckle down on dorm shopping and reading my summer reading book. >_>;

Note to self: Ask parents when they get home to ask when we can go to San Jose. Lol, I keep forgetting.

booga booga booga

I feel like a very accomplished bicyclist now! Phuc and Chau and the dudes invited me to go biking with them on a five-mile bike path in Elk Grove yesterday, which turned out to be very fun! I expected to cry the whole time at how much I suck at biking, since I only learned how to ride a bike less than two months ago, but I did a lot better than I expected! :D I couldn't make some of the turns and I screamed a lot and I laughed nervously a lot and I almost crashed into basically everyone, but I did see this really cute bunny and biked the entire five miles and back! :D I hurried on the way back cos my mom called me that she had to use the bathroom, so at one point I was leading the group, which Phuc thought was crazzzyyyy! oh diggle

Lol, my mom wanted to come so she could exercise so she stayed at the park where we started, and chilled there. After the bike ride, my mom offered to give Chau, Joseph, and Phuc a ride home and we ended up with a series of unexpected pit stops. First we went to Tops Yogurt because my mom needed to use the restroom, and we all got a whole bunch of frozen yogurt samples, then we went to In 'n' Out and got a bunch of orders of Animal Fries and shared them between us. Lol, awesome.

Also, happy 28th! It's my 3 and ¾ year anniversary with Phuc today! Only three more months until four years! (lol am i counting right?) :D We're gonna go to the zoo later this afternoon to celebrate, and I made him this drawing of Jim and Pam from The Office as a combo Part-2-Of-Your-Birdday-Present/anniversary present :

Also, I finally started playing that Restaurant City game on Facebook two days ago and I'm soooooo into it. Partially because among my many childhood dream careers, I used to want to be a chef! But then I realized I'm not very good at cooking. So I am vicariously living my childhood dream though my avatar. I'm starting to wake up with the first thoughts of: "I have to feed my employees!" Lol. :D
