  • One Last Night

    Senior Ball was amazing!

Yesterday was the first time that Phuc and I have ever had one of those dates like on TV, where he picks me up at my house, has a chat with my parents while I finish getting ready, and we both go out in Phuc's car while my dad says something like, "Bring her home by midnight!"

... Technically!  My mom decided that 4:00 PM pick-up was too early, so my parents wanted to drop me off for photos, go back home, then have Phuc pick me up at 5:30 PM.  So my parents dropped me off at PF Studio to meet up with Phuc for Senior Ball photos, while they scurried off to Target. xd  Everyone was soo pretttyyyyy, yeyyy!  After photos, my parents offered to let us go straight to Ball because pictures took longer than we expected, but we needed directions and my iPod (with its Prom Playlist), so my parents let Phuc drive me back home.  :)   My parents took a whole mess of pictures of us before we left, lol.

    Example!

When we arrived at Arden Hills Country Club (the place was gorgeous), I was so "omg aww" because Crystal and Danielle kept telling everyone to vote for Phuc and me for Senior Royalty!  Even Olivia, who was also nominated for royalty, said she really hoped that we'd win.  :x !!  There were a lot of nice slow songs while everyone was getting seated, so Phuc and I danced even though we were the only ones on the floor, which I thought was fun!  :D   Afterward, we sat with Danielle and Co. (which I was really happy about; I haven't hung out with her in AGES!) before the buffet (i loved the meat! *drool*) and played Telephone (reminded me of 7th grade in Weber's!).

Phuc and I mingled and danced, when Ms. Green said it was time to announce the royalty winners!  J'erycke and Bryan won prince, and when she said "And your Senior Ball King is... Phuc Le!" Phuc and I hugged each other and screamed and jumped and Phuc ran on-stage with me pushing him on!  XD  Everyone was chanting, "Phuc!  Phuc!  Phuc!" and I was all, "OMGZZZ DAS MY BOYFRIEND YEEEE."  I was SO nervous when Ms. Green started announcing the female winners, starting off with Shana and Olivia as princesses, and then she said MY name!  I was super shaking from shock and OMGz while I got my crown, sash, and bouquet, then instantly ran into my king's arms and kissed him until it was time for the royalty dance.  :D

    thx for the photo, sandraaaa

OMG, I am still so "omfg that is so crazy wow" that we wonnnnnnnn!  :3  I was really really mushy the rest of the night with everyone congratulating us and hugging us and taking photos of us!  Sovillo was SO excited when he gave us our favors ("Oh my god, I gave royalty their presents!!") and the teachers started bowing, giving us great lulz.  Ms. Martin, Danielle & Co., and Naashon/Jasmine gave the squealy hugs of the century, and I kept beating up Phuc saying, "Omgahh i can't believe we wonnnnzzzzz!"  After the shock and excitement, Phuc and I danced the night away for the last hour of Ball!  :)   So fun!

After Ball, Phuc drove me home and walked me to my door (*dreamy sigh*), and when my mom answered the door and saw me in my sash and crown with my roses, she started screaming her face off and yelled for my dad to see, which Phuc thought was very cute.  I hugged him goodbye, and my mom made me take another whole mess of photos, then Phuc and I chatted on the phone when he got home before going to sleep.  :)

    YAY.

    I loved Senior Ball.

    Love love loved it.

Almost as much as I love my king!  <3

    tee hee

  • My instant reply: "WHOA, what, who?  Wait, me?  What?  Me?"

I was pleasantly and extremely (and I mean extremely) surprised to hear the goss on the street that Phuc and I have apparently been nominated for Senior Ball royalty! (extremely surprised)

    How crazy!

    (extremely surprised)

SO 'KAY, MTHS seniors going to Ball this Saturday, vote for Phuc and me for royalty because we are awesome badasses that know how to rock this establishment... and because you will get baked goods in return!!

Albeit that if I'm already this surprised for being nominated, imagine the heart attack I'll get if I win anything.  :x

Although, God forbid, I hope that one thing doesn't happen where one of us wins and the other doesn't!  Because everyone loooooOOOoooOOooooves Phuc!  :x   For example, me!  </lame>

But I'm serious.  Vote + a request for a baked good = receive a baked good.  Lol.  Like a cupcake or cookie.  From me.  XD

    Made with loooove!

Though admittedly, the reason why this is not being thrown on myspace bulletins is because.. I can't make that many cupcakes.  XD.

    </shameless advertising>

    I love you all.

  • UC Merced: The Campus That Was Built Tomorrow

Today was Bobcat Day at UC Merced!

I went to the UCM campus and the town of Merced today to evaluate the place that I would potentially spend the next four years of my life.

On Thursday, I received an e-mail from Sac State (the biggest college competitor vs. UCM) informing me that I would most likely not receive my Fin. Aid package until after the SIR deadline.  After this and after Sac State lost my SAT scores and my EOP application, I was sort of /facepalm.  So since Thursday, I've had a Bobcat mentality and decided that as long as Bobcat Day went well, I would be attending UCM this fall.  It was to the point when Phap asked me where I was going to college, I blurted "UC Merced" with no hesitation.  homg!

It was a shorter drive than I expected (1½ hours vs 2+ hours) and the town was not AS bad as I expected!  I expected farmland and people in denim overalls and cow farms as far as the eye can see.  But, while it definitely surpassed this image, if someone asked me if I could live anywhere in the world, where would it be, Merced wouldn't be in the top.. many (although admittedly, Disneyland would be #1).  The part of town I saw looked like a town-wide version of "the ghetto side of Sacramento," except with prettier foliage around the city.

The university was a couple of minutes away from the town and was as "in the middle of no where" as their admissions counselor described when he visited MTHS on Monday.  Like UCSC, the campus outskirts greets you with a cow farm (is this.. a UC thing.. or something?).  Despite knowing that there's only 3k students on campus this fall, the campus was surprisingly small!  Housing/parking lots take up literally half the campus, and there's only THREE academic buildings + the library.  The campus tour took only like fifteen minutes.  In fact, if you take out the housing and the parking lots, it's quite possibly the same size as MTHS, except the buildings are multi-floored.  I actually had less of a problem with that than I expected.  One of my complaints when I went to UC Davis, UCSC, and Sac State is that it took forever to walk anywhere, especially since I dunno how to ride a bike... and because I'm a fat lazy bum.  D:!!!!  It was actually a little appealing knowing everything was right *there*, although I half-expect to get bored of that eventually and that I'll find myself in the town of Merced a lot in the future.  :o

Although I can see myself getting bored of Merced, but that's okay because I'm bored of Elk Grove.  XD  There's stores to live on, like grocery stores, but the amount of "hot spot" stores and shops leaves something to be desired.  When Phuc comes to visit me and asks me to bring him somewhere "interesting," I will not know anywhere to go.  :x

SO, Bobcat Day's schedule was a lot more lenient than Sac State's EOP day, which was very everyone-is-in-this-room-at-this-time.  We had breakfast in the library (one UCM con = only two places to eat, the library café and the dining commons!  weak!) and then looked at booths for a bit before going to the School of Natural Sciences meeting (biology major!).  A booth gave my mom a ziploc bag of ice to make ice cream, so I spent the campus tour shaking the bag of make-your-own ice cream.  Then, we went on the Housing tour, which totally made my mom very stoked, and the dorms actually looked fairly pleasant.  The UCSC dorms were space-y width-wise, but the UCM dorms had a lot of length, but a little crowded because each room has its own sink, which I find understandable.  Fun!

My biggest complaint of the day is that UC Merced definitely lacks shade, as all the trees are still babies from the campus being so new.  So it was really hot, but I can't really blame the campus for coming into contact with the sun.  Weather.com claims that Merced is on average ~5 degrees hotter than Sacramento, which I can probably live with.  Oh, I've been looking for an excuse for the flip-flop/shorts/dress life to find its way into my heart!

The academics of UC Merced greatly contributed to a big "YES!"  They have a core + emphasis structure instead of dividing the Biological Sciences into separate majors, so it's extremely flexible with changing emphases, which is handy for me because I currently cannot decide between Microbiology/Immunology and Human Biology.  :x   All the faculty speakers seemed very neato, with a British professor that is the splitting image of Dr. Wyatt from Bones.  And I love Bones.

At the end of the day, my mom had a bunch of Financial Aid questions, so we went to the Students First Center in the library, and the lady asked if I already submitted my SIR.  I said no, and she said, "Oh you want to do that now?" and my mom said yes.  And so I said, "oh, ok, i was just gonna do that when i get home" but instead I logged in at the Center, and to my horror, the lady clicked the "Accept Offer of Admission" button for me!  So I lamely lost the thrill of accepting my own college.  Lol.  >__>.

But, YES.  With the promise of a full ride + $5.2k profit in hand, I have sort of submitted my SIR to UC Merced.  Come this fall, I will be a bobcat.  Meow!  Yes, that's right...

    I'm going to UC Merced!

But as we young'uns know, the real official moment is totally when you join the UC Merced Facebook group and when your Myspace looks like this:

    XD

  • OSF/ASF

    rawr

This is quite belated, but Spring Break was a blast, although tiring!  It was quite possibly the most productive Spring Break I've ever had, with a Shakespeare Festival in Oregon and then swinging down to an overnight stay at UC Santa Cruz two days after.  It wasn't as event-filled as some of the Spring Breaks I've heard about, but it's quite the improvement from spending a week napping and on the computer.  :x

The Friday before Spring Break, it was time for the 3-day OSF fieldtrip with Dramaaa Club.  We were a really small group compared to previous years, with just Aldo, Phuc, Jessica Villa, Shayla, Shelby, and me.  But I have to admit, I was a little grateful for that because it was such an intimate group!  We all hung out with each other and had dinner together and whatnot.  We watched three plays; and while I admittedly was a little bored with The Music Man (which was ironically the play i was looking forward to the most), I love love love loved Macbeth (although scary) and Servant of Two Masters (my fave, while ironically the play i looked forward to the least!  omg!).  Phuc and I went swimming together for the first time in our lives in the first indoor pool of my life in the first suite of my life (win!), and I spent a lot of time snoogling with him and we had our first pillow fight together.  :D   pillo fite!!!

I ALSO GOT MY CURRY FIX AT OREGON.  Yeessss.  I've been having that since January.  Thank you, Oregon.

Here are photos from Oregon that I jacked from Shelby's Myspace because God knows I am too lazy to upload them myself:

A group picture during dinner @ Munchies!  :)

The "super" group picture (lol our group so small).  I am so shady!  Pun!

I must admit we look damn cute in this picture in our hotel elevator.  Dagnabit!  D:<!

    THEN,

After OSF, I had two days of rest at home before it was time to go to ASF!  (lol, osf, asf, get it?!)  I was invited a few weeks ago to the "A Step Forward" program at UC Santa Cruz, which is geared towards Filipino students to encourage them to pursue higher education and bring diversity to the UCSC campus.  I was the only person from my school going, and one of two people in all of Sacramento county.  >.>;  However, the mingling was WAY easier than I expected!  I was prepared to go loner on the bus, when a guy named Alestair sat next to me and we talked virtually the entire trip and the students chaperones were super entertaining.  Then I realized Alestair was "being fresh" with me (slang that i learned on my field trip, yay!) so I stopped talking to him so much.  ... :D

I was super impressed that ASF was COMPLETELY student-coordinated, and I went on campus tours (wtf UCSC has so many stairs) with my UCSC-student sister, had a buffet practically every meal, and I slept in the dorm lounges and got a taste of the community bathroom.  I saw like, six deer and a dead banana slug, and brought Phuc a souvenir banana slug pin (which pricked his nipple after sensing that he was a UCD Aggie).  I made REALLY good friends with three girls though, Joemma, Jeannine, and Marika from Manteca.  How fun!

The worst experience was potentially the sleeping.  This is mundane, but I absolutely must complain:
    I brought a sleeping bag, and the first night the room was so crowded that a girl slept over my feet, so I'm like 95% sure I kicked her in my sleep without knowing it.  I woke up in the middle of the night rolling into my roomie, Elizabeth (>__>), and woke up with an extremely sore shoulder because I slept in the wrong position.  The second night was MUCH better, because the Oakes lounge was much more roomy than College 9/10's, so I had my own little safe bubble.  I learned I'm a tad too tall for my sleeping bag, so my head needed to hang out and i just had my pillow on the floor.  But, my legs got really hot and cramped in the middle of the night, trapped in my sleeping bag, and the zipper got stuck while I was trying to unzip!  ;___;

    nyeh, sleeping bag

After the stay, there was a bus mix-up and Nor Cal had a school bus instead of the charter bus we originally used.  Because the idea of being in a school bus for 7 hours sounded absolutely haunting, I asked my parents to pick me up in San Jose instead.  By an awesome pure coincidence, Joeve was there looking for a prom dress, so she and I had lunch together and caught up!  :)   How badass.

The evening I got home from ASF, I was pleasantly surprised as I was greeted on Facebook with a wave of friend requests from ASFers wanting to keep in touch after the short-lived weekend.  I was surprised that out of 70 participants and an equal amount of UCSC student volunteers, I memorized a LOT of names!  These facebook invites flew at me and I was very, "Hay, I know you!" because I really actually did.

I am fortunately less afraid of people than I expected.

    Snippet of ASF picturezzz:

Group pictahh! *feels bad for girl with back to camera*

The Manteca girls I befriended + me.  :)

    so many stairs everywhere on campus ;-;

The room I slept in the second night of ASF!

And that was my Spring Break!

Thank you, thank you very much.

can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?  you better run, you better take cover

    Bye for now!  :)

  • I Have the Sweetest Date to Senior Ball

    Omgah!

I just got home from a GREAT weekend at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival!  But before I blog about my weekend, I've been meaning to blog about this since Thursday, when it happened!  :O

Phuc's been conjuring up a cool way to ask me out to Senior Ball for a while, and because we're so bad at keeping secrets from each other (at least I definitely am), he gave me a couple of hints (e.g., it required outside help, but no money, and that it'd happen at school.  how mysterious!).  I still couldn't guess what it was, though.  D;!

So, Phuc and I have Theater together, and we came into class like regularly on Thursday.  Since one of his hints was that it would happen before Spring Break, but because it was already Thursday and we had a field trip on Friday, I figured that it was impossible and he'd do it after Break!  Miz Townsend dropped a, "Phuc, do you still want to...?" and he said, "I'll talk to you about it later," very grimly.  I realized that she was one of his "contacts," but his emo voice gave me the impression that he was breaking the news that he wouldn't be able to execute his plans until after Break.  D:

Then Ms. Townsend released us to rehearsal in the theater, when Chau and Brenda came in to interview me for Literary Art Magazine.  I didn't remember sending Ms. Herburger my art, but since I sent her a lot of e-mails I figured that I probably just forgot about it and rolled with it.  Chau and Brenda asked me about drawing, which I got HELLA into, spouting off whatnot about my tablet and trying to learn how to use Corel Painter and whatnot. After a while, Ashanti came out and asked me if I was coming inside, and I thought that Ms. Townsend was wondering where I was.

So Chau and Brenda brought me back in, when I came into the theater, and I entered to see the class completely still and quiet and smiling, and I just see a sign saying "C is for how cute you are," and I thought, "OMFG WUH IZ THIS, PHUC R U FOR REAL?"

    Then this happened:

PS: In the beginning, I was reading them in my head when Ms. Townsend said, "Read them out loud!" so the class made me start over.  XD  And yes, at the end, when I am spinning around, I got lost and didn't know where to go, and so people had to reiterate that the signs had arrows pointing that-a-way.  :x   And no, I cannot understand myself by the end of the video either.  And Phuc says not to ask how "i" stands for "honest," but I didn't even notice because I was distracted with the whole "omfg i can't believe this is happening" feeling.  xD.  CUTIE.

I basically just DIED.  Phuc jumped out and asked me to ball, and I died when I said yes and everyone applauded!  Then we hugged each other and kissied, and I dug my face into his shoulder and cried.  :x

Afterward, Shayla told me about how people cried watching me, and how sweet they all thought Phuc was!  And I was just, "omg phuc is omgahhh crazy!"  Periodically throughout our Oregon field trip, I would just replay Thursday in my head and tell Phuc how crazy he is.  In Oregon, Ms. Townsend told me she felt bad for making me read them out loud because I "didn't even make it past the first letter."  XD

After almost three and a half years, it amazes me that Phuc continues to find ways to absolutely blow me away.  It was one of those rare moments that things felt like they were going in slow motion (i was really surprised that the video is only 48 seconds long, it felt like FOREVER) and I'm still half-convinced that it was all just a really wonderful dream, admittedly because it was just so unbelievably perfect and surreal.

And I agree, Phuc is probably the most perfect guy for me.  Ever, ever.
